At a very nice hospital, Baptist South (or the full name of Baptist Medical Center South). It is a new hospital just built within the past 5 years. The rooms have been great and the staff have all been excellent. You can tell they really thought about patient comfort. Pretty much everything in the room can be control from the patients bed. There was even a pull out sofa in the room for me to sleep on. I love the wifi access here though, it’s fast & works great. No Steam or WoW though, but that’s not horrible. Pulling down patch files at 1.4MB/s (yes that’s MB/s over wireless!) was very nice.
Helen is in for a hysterectomy, everything went well. Maggie, Helen’s Mom and I waited around for her to get out of surgery. Helen’s mom noticed all the art on the walls was from local artists (and she knew most of them personally). Helen’s surgery went well and she was up in her room with no problems. I stayed overnight with her, sleeping on the pull out sofa. It was interesting, on their rounds the nurses would try to be really quiet. Unfortunately I didn’t plan this well, and don’t really have clean clothes to change into. Laundry, a haircut and getting Helen home are my things to do for today.
Helen and I had talked about what if something happened, what would she want done if she went into a persistent vegetative state, had died, or just anything. We’re both big time worriers so only the really big things are the stuff we worry about. Of course that made me think of how my life would change if anything had happened to her, it was different. I don’t want anything to happen to her though, and so I was pretty relieved that everything went ok. So, there’s a Starbucks around the corner, I think I’m gonna put on some old clothes and get some coffee.

I didn’t mean to have four days off from work but it worked out that way. It made it interesting coming back today, classes start again today so Maggie’s with me. She’s both excited about and dreading her classes. I didn’t dread things until later in the semester then it was how much unfinished work I had.
Helen stopped by for lunch today and it was really nice to see her. She brought in the huge super-club from Blue-Boy’s Sandwichshop. It was great. I only wish Helen and I had more time together, that would have been nice.
Lots of updates from the Warcraft world. With blizzcon out & done this past weekend everyone’s buzzing about the new stuff. I only care about the World of Warcraft updates. I am really looking forward to the ‘remaking’ of the old-world with the cataclysm that’s coming. I am pretty sure that for them to make the improvements they want for other future expansion remaking the old world was totally needed. Especially flying mounts, only the outland cities had any thought to dealing with flying mounts, makes sense it was where they were introduced. (…and so restarting a day later…) Helen and I got to play for a while last night while Maggie watched “The Music Man”. We had a good time, I killed everything in sight and she followed me around dragging everything in. We finished up by getting killed by a human paladin when we flagged for PVP in the plaguelands. At first Helen was yelling at me about it, but after we got killed again by the same guy it was funny and we had a blast laughing it up.

I had a stream of people coming by last night… ok well three, and one was Maggie coming home. so it wasn’t really a stream but I was looking forward to playing some WoW and didn’t get on until 10:30pm. I got to play for a little bit before Helen came home and then had to pay bills and take care of things, and then I went back to playing… and then it was bed time. No time for relaxing…
I had fun though, in a fit of inspiration (In the Alterac Valley battleground) a bunch of people were grouping up to jump the boss of our group (the Horde), so I ran into them and mass feared them. They scattered everywhere and all of the bosses in the room began attacking them as they were running uncontrollably. It made the normal chaos of a battleground even more chaotic.
What I’m really interested in getting though is the DoomGuard. It’s a demon you can summon that automatically just begins running around and killing people. Hehehe, I want to summon it in the bank area of a major city and watch the chaos that ensues!
On another note, Helen and I are taking motorcycle lessons this weekend. With the Van down we’re looking at it as a we to get around without having to depend on cars. I hope this turns out better than my last miserable experience in taking lessons. Gotta get my jacket cleaned…

Anthony helped me replace the serpentine belt on the van last night. It went fairly easily and only took one 15mm wrench and a jack. Well, and the new belt of course. So I’m really happy about that. Now I get to re-figure out insurance as Mags drives the jeep around.
They towered off the escort yesterday and I’m only upset about that b/c I forgot to siphon the gas out of it. Since it’s so expensive now, that could have saved us some money.

Sleepy, but awake, sometimes I feel like I can fall asleep just about anywhere, and probably could. Drinking coffee but it’s not helping.
Bought a new tv this weekend.

It is the second tv I have ever bought. I’m very happy with it. I’m using a playstation 2 as the DVD player. It’s a good dual-use device. For some reason I was in a spending mood this weekend.
I got a chance to talk with a friend from G’ville yesterday and it was great. I hadn’t talked with her in a long time and I’m glad we got a chance to catch-up.
I’ve been working on an application to categorize images based on tags and also to change the size of the tags based on the popularity of the tag (where popularity is simply a measure of the number of clicks an image receives). I’m having a lot of fun working on it, but I’m getting to the last bits of code clean-up and it’s a real pain.
I’ll post more when I’ve got something for download… Although, you can see the results at http://rdex.net/image_tagger/browse.php
Pooks is healing well, she’s back at work today. She’s working back at her old office, but doing her own work, so that she’s around people. It helps her work.

Pooks’ surgery went well. (She had it on Thursday.) She was stressed but spent most of the time asleep. I was stressed but spent my time awake and waiting. Jennifer was there with me and we passed the time by walking and talking. We were in the little “room” waiting for Pooks when they brought her back. I was slightly surprised that they had her on oxygen when they brought her in, not in a good way either. I had always associated the oxygen tubes with old people who couldn’t breath… patients on their way out, but still be kept alive by modern medicine. So I was surprised, but she came in & out of consciousness and I held her hand and soon was more awake. I was ready to sleep by then though. The nurse had turned down the lights and I was sitting there and it was just the two of us and I finally started to relax. Eventually we both had to start moving around to wake up and were out of the hospital, in only 7 hours.
Friday I was dead tired still. Being tense for a whole day doesn’t make for a good next day. It was rough and I wasn’t the most productive for that day. This weekend too, I spent my time playing WoW and just not “doing” much of anything. In some way I needed the time to space-out. Pooks is recovering well too, she’s up and about easily, still gets tired fast though, but she’s not having any problems/complications from the surgery itself.
Back to normal life…

Suckage, up by one.
On a more positive note, I did 1/2 a mile on the treadmill walking, now I just need to be consistent about it.
Maggie got her drivers license, so she’s cruising around now… and bringing all her friends home with her. I’m not thrilled about that, but I’m glad she’s happy with her new found freedom.
….
So I started this post yesterday, but thanks to saved draft copies, I can finish today.
Cut paragraph about parenting, it’s not for the public
Taking a day off tomorrow to go to the beach, It will be a nice family day to get away before school starts in the fall. We’re all looking forward to it.

Well Patti’s gotten herself in trouble again. Mainly by being stupid, not much I can do about it. (See dad’s blog for details) So I’m both frustrated with her and annoyed that she’d do something stupid like this. I thought she knew better.
On a much happier note, Pooks is selling t-shirts like a mad woman! Her shirt site (www.ccandperl.com) is doing well and she’s put up new designs. I got her the domain last night and as a special deal, I picked up the chinese domain name too! www.ccandperl.cn “CN” is the internet country code for China. So I figure eventually we’ll make a fortune cookie site out of it or something. I surprised her with it though so it was totally worth it!
Maggie came home last night too. Yay! It is cool that she’s back around and we can hang out and stuff. I sang her “Old Grumbler”.

Turned 34 on Saturday! Yay! Woot! Yippee!
Went to see the Harry Potter movie, verdict: it was ok, but not great.
Spent the rest of the day relaxing with Pooks. Since she had been out of town for the week we used most of the day to just be together and enjoy each others company. It was a nice long relaxing weekend.
Several friends of mine are doing ’self-improvement’ type things. preparing for job changes, working on their education, things like that. I have wondered if I should be doing those things too, but I really like what I do, maybe not where I’m doing it, but I love the what part. If anything, going back to school for a masters would be worthwhile, but I look at the time and money it would take and I have my doubts about it. I know it’s a good investment, but with other things to worry about…
on a good note, I’ve paid off my van woohoo!
